(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Concurrent with Eid Al-Adhha, Suleymaniye historical mosque in Istanbul will reopen after three years on Tuesday, November 16.
The mosque with its outstanding architecture is regarded as a cultural and Islamic heritage of Ottoman period.
It was closed three years ago to be repaired by over 200 calligraphers, historians and archeologists. Turkish Lira paid by Turkish Charity Affairs director spent more than 21 million Turkish Liras for the project.
Ordered by Ottoman king, Sultan Suleyman I, the mosque was built from 1550 to 1557 by Khaje Me’mar Sinan, Ottoman architect.
The mosque has a dome which is 53-meter high and 27.5-meter wide and four minarets marking a building set up under the order of a king. It was built with a combination of Islamic-Byzantine style of architecture.
